LOVE AND ONLY LOVE…

There are so many things that make my heart sing…and this is one of them. This piece of art by Robert Indiana was originally created in 1964… and started out as a painting. The vision, the sculpture that we see standing today was created for the Bicentennial in 1976.

Well, after a year away for redesign its back home in the newly redecorated Love Park, in its original color scheme, red, green and purple…yes purple! Every time I’m in the City of Brotherly Love, I find myself here…right before I hop on the road back to New York. I’m not exactly sure why I’m drawn to this 6’x6’x3’ aluminum sculpture, that stands 7’ off the ground…but I am.

Maybe, because that art says exactly what it is, “love?”
Can’t be anymore straightforward than that.
Maybe, it’s the way people clamor to take pictures next to it, under it, and all around it?
Maybe, it’s because it makes people smile?
Maybe, because it speaks to a part of our universal being and longing?
Maybe, there’s a collective yet silent agreement we make as we stand there,          "love exists?"
Maybe that’s what I see…
But what I feel?…

love only love
